Restaurants

UPDATE: I've started a new blog, Pastry Place Restaurant Reviews, so I will no longer be updating this page. Instead, head over to that blog for these and more restaurant reviews!

On occasion I have posted about food I have eaten out.  From now on, I will add the names of the restaurants when I ate that food to the list here.  That way, if you are craving that cheesecake I mentioned once, instead of searching for the post, just check here and you'll see that it is from Cafe Fiorello.  I will also, on occasion, list restaurants on here that I won't actually blog about because, well, it's easier!

I live in NYC, so obviously most of the restaurants are based in New York, but do leave the city from time to time, so I'll be sure to add them.

This isn't technically a feed like the main page, so I will just add to the bottom of the list here:
  • Cafe Fiorello
    • Home to some of the best cheesecake ever.  Also, really amazing fried artichokes and pizza (lovely thin crust with homemade mozzarella.)  In fact, everything I've eaten there has been great!
    • The service is almost always excellent and sometime they bring around little samples of cookies or muffins or even soups!
  • Whole Foods
    • I suppose this isn't a restaurant, exactly.  But they do have wonderful prepared foods to eat in their seating area.  At a few they sell gelato and sorbet (I believe it's actually Ciao Bella brand).  I tried their blackberry cabernet sorbet, and wow was it good.  If it is Ciao Bella, it's better than when you get it in pints in the freezer section...perhaps because it's fresher or kept slightly less cold, either way, yum!  By the way, their tuna with apple and cranberries is amazing, as is their corn bread.
  • Alice's Tea Cup
    • The home of Jean's-not-yet-but-soon-to-be-famous Mocha Chocolate Chip Cake.  Also, some really amazing, non-traditional scones.  If you ever make it there I highly recommend having a pumpkin scone and herbal chai tea.  Although I've never not liked one of their scones and all their teas are amazing (I recommend the Margaret's Hope Darjeeling, which is spectacular darjeeling that is pretty difficult to find).  Their other food is good too.  Their BLT is excellent, as is their tea-infused granola.
    • Since they expanded the service has gone down hill.  They are still nice and efficient, but not nearly as good as they used to be.  In addition, they are a bit irritating about not seating incomplete parties (it drives me a little nuts when the restaurant is half empty and they won't give me a table while I'm waiting for a friend to meet me.)  That said, they are almost always busy because the food is good, there are pages and pages of teas offered, and the atmosphere is so much fun!
  • Cafe Luxembourg
    • An Upper West Side bistro that actually approximates a real French bistro. Their food is excellent. I've tried a number of different things, and loved everything. Their Luxemburger is great, as is their fish and chips with minted peas (the peas are amazing!) I've never tried their omelets but I've been with people who have and they all raved about them.
    • The reason I like Cafe Luxembourg so much is their desserts. Their homemade ice cream is wonderful: a perfect texture and great flavors. I also have enjoyed every plated dessert I've had there as well. For more on their desserts see my post Dessert at Cafe Luxembourg.
